The Pizzoetrope: How to Recreate an Animated GIF on a Pizza
Make Magazine want to go viral on Tumblr … HARD!!! So, someone has put together a tutorial where you can combine the zoetrope animation technique … with pizza …
It’s hard to ignore the popularity of pizza and animated GIFs on the internet, especially on social networking sites like Tumblr. The Pizzoetrope is a device that brings pizza, animated GIFs, and social networking together in one elegant dish. As the name suggests, The Pizzoetrope is basically a zoetrope that is created on a pizza by using the toppings to make the images in the animation. Animated GIFs from the internet can be used as a template for decorating the Pizzoetrope and the finished pizza can be used as a catalyst for social networking by sharing it with friends or having a Pizzoetrope party!

3D Marching

3D printed zoetrope with strobe effect creates convincing animation effect:
Latest addition is the 3Drehkino disk showing a small figure (ca. 18mm tall) walking in an endless loop. The video below gives an idea, but the original 3D look in real is stunning.
Here is a video of the piece in action:

ZOETROPE by Troika

Digital installation from 2008 / 2009:
Concept
We wanted to create a container that both celebrated the heritage of motion arts as well as its digital present while affording us a very literal medium for the content – the idea of altered states through motion. From there the idea of a hi-tech zoetrope arose. To illustrate the idea of disparate images coming together Troika deconstructed legendary type designer Wim Crouwel´s Gridnik typeface for the zoetrope, breaking the typeface into verticals, horizontals and diagonals which merge into letters and words at speed.
yooouuutuuube - Present YouTube videos in a zoetrope style
yooouuutuuube has been around for a few years now, but can still present YouTube videos in an interesting way. You give it a Youtube URL, specify the size of each frame, plus a few effects that could be chosen if wished. What happens then is each frame is presented in a sequence across the screen. Should you wish for something more trippy, there is the ‘flux’ option which moves all these frames around randomly.
The images above are taken from putting Max Capacity’s “TOXIC SUPER FREAKOUT 09/21/11” video upload, and, with this, works really well.

The Q Train to Manhattan by RageHaus
Subway train zoetrope / Masstransiscope:
This was an animation we saw while riding the subway. I want to say we saw it while riding the Q train going into Manhattan. Unfortunately the middle is a little slow because the train was slowing down for a moment, but the second part is at optimal speed. We saw many things while riding the subway but this was a treat! If anyone has the full animation, please drop us a line. We’d love to see the full animation from start to finish.
