Interactive UV light responsive t-shirts which are commercially available:

Glow Thread shirts are the first interactive glow in the dark t-shirts. You are able to to draw and create custom designs using our UV keychain light and UV Laser. Our UV keychain light is included with every purchase which allows you to draw on our shirts by touching the UV light to the shirt and write whatever you want. Using the UV laser you can draw on the shirt from up to 40ft away. Unlike other Glow Thread “imitators” where you are limited to a silk screened rectangle to draw on, our Glow Thread shirts are fully customizable and you are able to draw on every piece of the t-shirt. This means there is NO silk screened area and you are able to draw on the front, back, sides and even the sleeves.

Can fashion and digital art mix and match?

Yes they can! Thanks to new media artist Sterling Crispin and his digital fashion project called Netstyl.es, you can now wear digital art. A few months ago, we already talked about the project (see here) but the good news is that Sterling is now launching a second collection of six limited edition t-shirts. This time, the six artists invited to make their digital art become physical were Alex Gibson, BodyByBody, Dora Budor + Maja Cule, James w Magnum 3, Parker Ito and Sidian Ersatz & Vans. We had a little chat with Sterling about his project and the link between fashion and digital art. Did you sell all the pieces of the first edition? Do you know who are the people who purchased the t-shirts?

More than half of the first edition of shirts have sold to a diverse international audience.

What is the idea behind Netstyles? How did this project come to your mind and when did you start it? Where you inspired by the bad smelling boy tumblr or other artists?

Netstyles is a digital aesthetics fashion line which translates virtual art into physical form. The clothes act as hyperlinks in physical space to emerging concepts developing in contemporary culture. I launched Netstyles on February 6th of 2012 but had been researching and doing tests since at least August of 2011. Many artists working today have adopted a post-internet sensibility and create far more digital objects than physical objects. Netstyl.es was created to provide a common platform for contemporary artists to experiment with, and make physical what would otherwise remain as digital forms. Bad Smelling Boy and Body By Body were two influences, both of which are included in the new Netstyles release.

What is the deal with the artists? Do you give them a percentage on the sales profit?

The artists involved receive most of the profit, my production cost is quite high, this whole project is a creative act more than a business.

Warp Records: Japan Tsunami Fundraising Warp T-Shirt - 100% of sale price goes to Red Cross Aid

Yesterday we launched a Facebook competition to win a one-off custom Warp T-Shirt - there were over 700 entries.

One of the Facebook comments suggested a White T-Shirt with a Red logo to support Japan.  A great idea we thought… one so good it shouldn’t be limited to a unique shirt for one individual.

Iron Maiden to sell their Japan version of latest tour T-shirts for Charity

Following the cancellation of both Maiden Tokyo shows due to recent events in Japan, we will be donating the proceeds from sales of the Japanese event shirt available from the Official Iron Maiden Shop (ie. the shirt without tour dates on) to a Charity assisting victims of the earthquake. Feedback from our Fanclub Forum suggests our fans fully support this proposal.

We plan to do likewise with the stock of event shirts currently in Tokyo, which were due to be sold onsite at the Tokyo venue (ie. the shirt with tour dates on). Details will follow as soon as possible as to where these will be available from, once we have worked out shipping etc.
