  • Glockentar

Hacked together music instrument mash-up combining a guitar and a glockenspiel, with added projection-mapped lighting on the strings (ssing Arduino, openFrameworks, and MadMapper) - by Aaron Sherwood (video embedded below):

Glockentar from Aaron Sherwood on Vimeo.

The Glockentar combines a glockenspiel with a guitar.

Each time a string is plucked a glockenspiel bell is struck with a solenoid, and a beam of light is projected across the length of the string.

  • Corrupt.desktop by Benjamin Gaulon

Software app to glitch any Apple Mac computer’s desktop display. It could also be used as some kind of public glitch art display / virtual vandalism / Situationist act … as demonstrated in a Mac Store in the following video:

Corrupt.desktop [Fnac] from recyclism on Vimeo.

Corrupt.desktop glitch, in real time, the computer’s desktop image. So if you want to glitch your local Apple Store or Apple Retailer simply download the App (from the shop’s computer):

DOWNLOAD Corrupt.desktop [don’t forget to film it!] →

Corrupt.online, Corrupt.video and Corrupt.desktop are using the same algorithm, which consists of a binary alteration of the original data. So technically Corrupt damages the data on a binary level, which result in unpredictable and beautiful results.

A project by Martial Geoffre-Rouland and Benjamin Gaulon, based on Corrupt a web based Glitch Art Software allowing its user to upload and share corrupted images on www.corrupt.recyclism.com.

This project is made with the openFrameworks library.

  • Visual Smash Up by Parag K Mital

One of many projects by the author experimenting with real-time video processing of ‘mosaicing visual content’. The end results are somewhere around hallucinary Cubism, datamoshing and moving collage - video below:

Visual Smash Up from Parag K Mital on Vimeo.

We present a system for realtime mosaicing of visual content. The system learns objects from the camera image and displays the resulting visual mosaic. Only unique objects are learned creating a hallucinatory resynthesis of the original camera image. For instance, all keyboard letters are replaced by only a single letter since based on purely visual appearance, a single letter is unique enough to portray the keyboard.

It is worth checking out other projects by Parag, including an iOS app which can do something similar with your photo images. Oddly, it requires you to allow location data to be available which seems irrelevant, so I didn’t test it. The app, though, is free.

  • Programmed Pencil Drawing Effect

This isn’t a cheap iPhone app or Photoshop filter, but using code @kyndinfo has managed to create the most convincing artificial sketching effect I have seen so far.

    From Creative Applications:

Kynd uses openFrameworks to create pencil-like drawings of photographs:

Pencils has been the most primitive or the most basic drawing and writing tool since around the last century. It also was the one of the primary tools when I was in an art school and has been my best friend since then. Trying to simulate the tone of pencil sketches with programing codes, I reacknowledged that the beauty of of the tool lies in the delicate control of the blackness, strength and thickness of of lines, which I could hardly achieve in some of my attempts so far.

More can be found at Creative Applications here, and it is also worth checking @kyndinfo’s Vimeo channel for further experiments, including motion
