MERGE by Jake Stollery 

A series of works combining digital printing, paint, photography and Kinect 3D scanning to create pieces focused on our technical future:

A 5 piece narrative forecasting the future, a time of the Singularity. The next stage in human evolution - merging with technology, discarding our physical, organic form & existing purely as a digital self.

Using projection, 3D scanning (via Microsoft Kinect) , photography, acrylic paint and digital printing, the series uses sequential artworks to illustrate its narrative. Beginning with the birth of the singularity, humanity’s desire to exist with it, the capturing of our minds, bodies then culminating in the discarding of our primitive, restrictive, organic self.

Machina by Claudia Hart

Framed digital art piece is a 3D animation of a sleeping female nude subject in the classical pose of Venus / Odalisque - a two minute example of the twenty minute work:

“Machina” is a 3D animation portraying the compressed time and space of painting, shows a dreaming character whose slow, drowsy movements articulate all of the minutia of a single moment. “Machina” uses the most advanced techniques of virtual reality simulation, and a series of animations that result in a representation that is sensual and organic. Occasionally, Machina opens her eyes to gaze at the viewer, in a moment of transformation, allowing the object of our gaze to subject us to hers. Based loosely on works such as Titian′s Venus and paintings by the Baroque artist Peter Paul Rubens, “Machina” is meant to introduce sensuality into the virtual realm by employing an idea of beauty as defined by a woman.

Nudes by Thomas Ruff

Project from 2003 taking pornographic images from the web and processing them. From File Magazine:

In 2003 photographer Thomas Ruff published a photographic collection of “Nudes” with a text by the French author Michel Houellebecq. Ruff’s images here are based on Internet pornography, which was digitally processed and obscured without any camera or traditional photographic device. In 2009, the Aperture Foundation in New York published jpegs, a large-scale book dedicated exclusively to his monumental series of pixilated enlargements of internet-culled images, all compressed using the standard JPEG format.

Hyper-Real Paintings of Hilo Chen

Hilo Chen, born in 1942 in Taiwan, paints scenes of women suntanning on the beach. A perfect setting for the contemporary female nude, yet some of his work enters obsessive and voyeuristic territory (as can be seen above).

Reclining Nude [1922] - Tsugouharu Foujita via Gandalfs Gallery

Tsuguharu Foujita (Tokyo, November 27, 1886 - Zurich, January 29, 1968) was a Japanese painter and printmaker who applied Japanese ink techniques to Western style paintings. Foujita had his first studio at 5 Rue Delambre in Montparnasse where he became the envy of everyone when he eventually made enough money to install a bathtub with hot running water. Many models came over to Foujita’s place to enjoy this luxury, among them Man Ray’s very liberated lover Kiki, who boldly posed for Foujita in the nude in the outdoor courtyard. He died of cancer in Zurich, Switzerland.

In my work, I attempt to reflect my sense of the times we are living in, and both how richly interesting they are and how difficult it is for most of us to navigate their uncharted waters. There is a great push and pull, the lure and the repulsion, the fiction and the real, the known and the unknown. And we live in this swirl of delicate gestures, driving desires, fantasy, economic complexity and interdependence, hierarchical separations, isolation and hope. I am trying to render some notion of this rich fabric.
