  • Sega Rally Championship RC Cars Project

Converting an old two seat arcade driving game cabinet to control remote controlled cars with cameras, developed for a tech event in Portugal (video embedded below):

    From The Arcade Man:

The Artica guys are addicted to race games and Trackmania is only one of their favorites!!

They’re still addicted to race games but they don’t play them, instead, they prefer to create their own games.

They thought it would be cool to drive a remote control car using a steering wheel and pedals, and if the car had a wireless cam, the gamer could look at the screen and really see what the car was seeing in real time, just like an arcade game!

This was the proposal to Sapo Codebits! To have an arcade game where it would be possible to drive two cars and participate in a real race, without any simulations or complex algorythms, neither 3D graphics.. They want something real! Celso Martinho from Sapo was very excited with their idea, and by coincidence (or not) they were planning to have a retro gaming area at Sapo Codebits!!

  • Twitter Text Art Car Commercial

A Twitter profile from Smart Argentina (@smartArg) features all the frames to a text art animation, a car commercial. I put this gif animation together to see what it looks like - the idea being that you press / hold the ‘j’ button on your keyboard to automatically jump to the next tweet in succession.

You can try it out for yourself here

PS - I tried to get this to upload as a photo post (the image easily fits the limits, yet wouldn’t upload - no idea why …)

  • Volkswagen Parking Lot Towers At Autostadt

    From Design Boom:

Spanning approximately 16 stories, two silos are used as a kind of temporary vertical parking lot at Volkswagen’s production facility and Autostadt visitor attraction in Wolfsburg, Germany.
The 48-meter tall silos are composed of glass and galvanized steel, illuminated by night.
A conveyor belt system transports finished cars directly from the adjacent manufacturing plant to the towers’ basement. From there, they are lifted into position via mechanical arms that rotate and run along a central beam, moving vehicles in and out of their bays at a speed of two meters per second.

  • DeLorean DMC-12 to go into production by 2013
From the DeLorean website:

“This sucker’s Electrical??”
Yes! You’re looking at the brand-new, all-electric DeLorean which debuted at the DMC Texas – Open House Event Oct.14th, 2011.
For several years, DeLorean Motor Company of Texas has been reconstituting the fruit of John Z. Deloreans’s troubled loins (phrasing!). Now we are working with electric-car startup Epic EV to put an all-electric DMC-12 into production by 2013.

Flux Capacitor unconfirmed.

  • Man admits having sex with 1,000 cars (via The Telegraph UK)

Edward Smith, who lives with his current “girlfriend” – a white Volkswagen Beetle named Vanilla, insisted that he was not “sick” and had no desire to change his ways.
“I appreciate beauty and I go a little bit beyond appreciating the beauty of a car only to the point of what I feel is an expression of love,” he said.
“Maybe I’m a little bit off the wall but when I see movies like Herbie and Knight Rider, where cars become loveable, huggable characters it’s just wonderful.
“I’m a romantic. I write poetry about cars, I sing to them and talk to them just like a girlfriend. I know what’s in my heart and I have no desire to change.”
He added: “I’m not sick and I don’t want to hurt anyone, cars are just my preference.”

More weirdness here
There was a documentary shown in the UK about this subject, and I think it was this person. Very weird.
He said his most high-profile ‘lover’ was Airwolf !??!!??!
