  • The YouTube Insult Generator by Adrian Holovaty (via WaxyLinks)
An ‘Insult Search Engine’ that can create lame put-downs for comments to YouTube videos:

After groaning about these types of comments for a while, I realized they’re a sort of semistructured information — it’s always a number, followed by some sort of insult. And, besides, some of them are actually kind of witty. Hence my new project: The YouTube Insult Generator.
This is a basically a “search engine for insults.” Type in a search term, and it’ll give you insults you can use against a person who doesn’t like that term.
For example, enter “the godfather,” and it’ll give you “You sleep with the fishes,” “You sleeps with horsehead in bed” and “You will get an offer you can’t refuse.” Enter “alfred hitchcock” and it’ll say “You had your eyes plucked out by crows” and “You have Vertigo.” Enter “mario brothers” and it’ll say “You aren’t Super enough for Mario,” “You can’t beat world 1-1” and “You are bowser.” You get the idea.
It finds stuff only about 50% of the time, but it works surprisingly well when it does work. Try general terms (“car”) and pop culture (“michael jordan”, “i love lucy”). Each insult includes a link to its source YouTube video.

I tried the search term ‘Tron’, and got:

You waisted your quarters! lol #You wasted a quarter #Youne dont like joysticks #You need to die in a fire. #You didn’t have any quarters to put in it. #You can’t ride a bike #You had seizures. #You should be derezzed. #You suck!!! #

  • Google+ as your Blog (Concept using the G+ API) by Daniel Treadwell
The most interesting thing to be made with the Google+ API, although at the moment it is a proof-of-concept idea. What Daniel has created is a new visual front-end to display his Google+ posts in a familiar blog style. Plus, if you wanted to, you can try seeing your posts this way:

There has been a lot of talk by bloggers on Google+ about potentially moving a lot of their blogging across to this social media platform. Whilst there is (for some) a much more engaging audience here, it does not really double as a landing page for writers to onsell their services or to display talent (other than writing/photography). It is for this reason that most will probably still continue to post to their blog as well as Google+.I know many are holding out for the API to allow writing directly to Google+ but this seems quite a while off based on comments made by Googlers. What I am showing you now is a concept where Google+ is used as your content management system, and your blog is a mirror of it. The site is still customisable in every way that a normal websites allows, yet it pulls all of it’s data for the blog from Google+ saving on rewriting/formatting. You can see all comments, and stats on +1s and reshares, shared photographs and video.
You can see my own public posts as a blog here:http://www.minimali.se/Or see what your own blog would look like by putting your profile ID in the URL.http://www.minimali.se/Profile ID/ (eg. http://www.minimali.se/103697821787469756035)

I’ve tried it, and it works very well … if you have uploaded the content to Google+. Videos are displayed at a good size, and pictures look great (if you have uploaded it). However, if you have just posted links, it won’t display any images that it would normally do (as in, a complimentary smaller image from the post / link you have shared). Also, you are presented with your real name (as is customary with Google+).
