NPR: First Listen: Flying Lotus, ‘Until The Quiet Comes’
Embedded above is the NPR stream of Flying Lotus’ latest album, released next week. It’s a lot mellower than previous releases, yet just as satisfying.
More about the album can be read at the NPR website here

Chris Brown’s albums sabotaged with protest stickers
In a London Store, Chris Brown’s album features stickers containing the words “DO NOT BY THIS ALBUM! THIS MAN BEATS WOMEN” - from The Guardian:
Chris Brown’s foray into repulsively self-referential body art was the tipping point for some. His latest album Fortune has been covered with bespoke warning stickers in London branches of HMV. “Warning,” they say. “Do not buy this album! This man beats women.”
Similar guerilla art tactics were used in 2006 when Banksy re-tooled Paris Hilton’s debut album, Paris: she was topless on the cover, her head was replaced with a dog’s on the inlay photos and the listed song titles were changed to philosophical chin-strokers such as Why Am I Famous?, What Have I Done? and What Am I For?
Analogue-Monsta - BOOM
Collaborative album with Suzi Analogue and TOKiMONSTA available for the price of an email address, is 10 tracks of psychadelic electronica soul. The song playable above is called ‘Conversion Theory’.
This eclectic pair, made up of Suzi Analogue and TOKiMONSTA , is a duo of rank. Their collective background of hip-hop, psych rock, R&B and electronic has blown both minds and speakers alike. By pairing radio accessibility with radical thinking they’ve managed to created a classic with a twist hybrid that landed their very first single, NXT MSG on BBC Radio 1.
If you have been following this blog for awhile, you know that I am a fan of TOKiMONSTA, and I would say it’s definitely worth the download. I have embedded the album player below, or you can listen and download the tracks here
Both the artist’s have their own Tumblr blogs as well:

Born Ready To Die

Mashup album combining samples from Lana Del Ray’s album with vocals from Notorious B.I.G. 15 tracks from it are in the embedded player above.
[I have to admit, I’m not personally keen on either of these artists, but these albums have interesting results, and could be of interest to others … ]
In honor of Biggie’s passing 15 years ago on March 9, 1997… I wanted to do a special project.
Mick Boogie and I honored the anniversary of his passing with a special project called Unbelievable, which was hosted by Sean “Diddy” Combs and exceded 500k downloads online.
But to pay tribute this time, I wanted to do something different. Merge music styles. Bridge audiences together in new ways.
So I proudly present to you along with the homies from Dope Couture… Lana Del Rey and Notorious Big…
Born Ready To Die.The music from Lana’s Born To Die… remixed and resampled.
The lyrics from Biggie’s Ready To Die… still timeless after all these years. It’s a perfect marriage… dark and mysterious… soulful and gritty.
Lana told Vogue Magazine that Biggie was one of her biggest musical influences… and now… he is her musical collaborator.
I present to you… Born Ready To Die.

Brain’s Beats by Black Einstein

Free instrumental hip-hop album available at Bandcamp here
Some background from his blog:
In 2008 Braintax (Joe Christie) brought his career to an end with the release of his last album titled “My Last And Best Album” (debatable), closed down LowLife Records, retired to Australia and promptly vanished.
The album was produced entirely by Black Einstein’s Colin Emmanuel and released with literally no promo to favourable reviews. “Brain’s Beats” is 9 of the 11 tracks from that album available for download on Bandcamp for FREE!!
Wu-Tang vs Jimi Hendrix - Black Gold (Mixtape) by Tom Caruana (via 2DopeBoyz)
The track above is Hey Joe
In similar fashion as his past project, Wu-Tang vs. The Beatles (no links, but if you Google, you’ll more than likely find a copy), Tom Caruana mashes up 36 parts Wu a capellas and collides it with some of the incomparable Jimi Hendrix’s catalogue of legendary music. What we’re presented with is a nuclear fusion of ill beats, rhymes and a dash of psychedelics.

Plaid’s next album, ‘scintilli’ will come with parts to turn the CD into an ornament
The CD will be initially available in a ‘Muda na Mono’ puzzle pack, the name taken from a Japanese phrase meaning ‘pointless object’. It contains two die-cut rings and a CD which can be assembled as per the diagram above. If correctly aligned, the sphere created allows the track titles to be read. The packaging reflects a desire to give the CD an ornamental function, beyond its one use as a basic storage device for music.
L’AUTOMNE by PRISONGARDE
Taken from a free album Système Hermès, collection of contemporary drum machine and synth.

Ok. So after a good year of writing tunes under the Prison Garde moniker I have come up with a collection of ideas from Live P.A. sets that I think folks might be into. These are various tempo joints ranging from 70-150 bpm, all tied together by the presence of Drum Machines and Synths. This collection is Free download in support of the Bass Coast music festival and the Yours Truly party that will be starting next month. You can also check out a little QnA over here with the homies Sub|Div talking about my current influences and what I have been upto in Vancouver since moving here.
From Sonic Router:
As Sixtoo, Vaughn Robert Squire soundtracked a lot of people’s youth. His early work with Buck65, as the Sebutones and his solo production albums, as well as his beats for Anticon artists like Sage Francis, made him something of a name in indie rap circles. His beats were edgy, channelling that dusty hip hop vein pioneered by accomplished diggers like DJ Shadow he completely twisted it in new and interesting directions across his pinnacle projects ‘Duration’ or ‘Chewing On Glass, And Other Miracle Cures.’
… Switching styles he laid the Sixtoo moniker to rest, re-emerging as Speakerbruiser with a new group called Megasoid that focused its attention on throwing Turbo Crunk parties in Montreal and producing big synth remixes that were epitomized on their Speed Knots and Tank Thong mixtapes. It was a switch in style that allowed Squire the space to get wild and since the ‘Soid’s demise in ’09 he’s been working under the Prison Garde alias since relocating to Vancouver, producing his brand of ‘Hi Grade Audio Sex’ across tempos.
