Surreal Reproductions of News International Report

In the UK news, some developments have happened in the on-going investigation by parliament in relation to the conduct of News International and its employees.

Released today on the UK Parliament’s website is a 102 page document (in pdf form) which features a response to questions asked by committee members from News International. In relation to question 2 is a Code Of Conduct brochure, which is obviosuly reproduced by photocopier.

Its interesting coming across these image of a bizarre relationship of images to statements, the sort of thing Barbara Kruger is famous for, plus some irony. Add the black and white reproductive quality and dithering and you have a weird aesthetic effect.

Direct link to the document can be found here

(NB - Sorry if the visual quality is not great on some of these - obviously must have had images resized)

  • Official: Rebekah Brooks has NOT resigned from News International

This, potentially, could be very controversial if true … (via No DPI)

I’ve read a few reports in the Telegraph and Guardian questioning the truth about Rebekah Brooks putative resignation from News International. Did she, or didn’t she, go?

As far as Companies House (the official record of companies in the UK) is concerned, she has NOT resigned.

Please see this ‘Current Appointments‘ report purchased from Companies House today.

    In her resignation letter published 15 July she said;

I have given Rupert and James Murdoch my resignation. While it has been a subject of discussion, this time my resignation has been accepted.

By law, a Director’s resignation must be notified to Companies House within 14 days using form TM01. If Ms Brooks had resigned on 15 July, that form should have reached Companies House before 29 July 2011.

No such form is listed on the Companies House site.

Link to original article can be found here, although the site doesn’t seem to be stable.

Luckily, I was able to create a screen capture of the page with the details, which can be found here

  • Private Eye magazine piece on Piers Morgan (refered to here as ‘Moron’) on his arrogance and hacking escapades during his editorialship in the UK newspaper, the Daily Mirror

He may also hope and pray that no one who attended it still remembers a lunch held in September 2002 in a private room at the swanky new Four Seasons Hotel in Canary Wharf, just by the offices of the Daily Mirror. The occasion was one of the monthly bunfights hosted for Moron by convivial Trinity Mirror chairman Sir Victor Blank. The dozen or so guests at this one included Ulrika Jonsson, Jeremy Paxman and the then chief executive of BT, Ben Verwaayen.
Moron’s feeble attempts to master a Scandinavian accent in front of Jonsson – he was trying to wind her up by mimicking conversations with Eriksson – were received with embarrassed titters. Then he started to hector Verwaayen, roaring that BT “should start providing better security for pin numbers for mobile phones! You should tell your customers to go and change them!”
At which point one might have expected the Trinity Mirror chairman to ask how his editor seemed to know the intimate details of Jonsson and Eriksson’s phone calls. But nothing was heard from the man who had so famously protected Moron in the “City Slickers” scandal, ignoring chief executive Philip Graf’s pleas to have him fired.
Having mocked Ulrika and hectored Verwaayen, Moron then launched into his party piece – a re-enactment of Heather Mills arguing on the phone with Paul McCartney and the ex-Beatle winning her round by singing “We Can Work it Out”.
